Limit video games and television – See article about Steve Jobs and his kids

We know about the benefits of technology and learning, but there are also some definite drawbacks. Consider limiting videos, television and video games during the week. On the week-end you can allow a small amount of time on the computer, ipad, and television. There is research that points to problems with children developing empathy when they focus on technology. We develop empathy by reading facial cues and interacting with our peers. Children who are constantly interacting with games, movies and videos are also not developing math and reading skills. One way to use the computer is to have children supplement learning with some of the amazing websites that I have mentioned before in this blog.
